Meet Ingrid: Taking on Etape Caledonia with Fund Her Tri UK

This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the power of community in breaking down barriers for women in sport. Meet Ingrid, a member of Fund Her Tri UK (FHT), who is preparing to ride Cancer Research UK Etape Caledonia for the first time. With the support of FHT, she’s stepping up to a new challenge, pushing her limits, and inspiring others to do the same.

Stepping Up to the Challenge

What made you decide to take on Cancer Research UK Etape Caledonia?

I completed my first duathlon in Richmond in 2023 and also Ride London in 2023 & 2024 which was my longest ride at 30 miles. Etape Caledonia is a new challenge for me as I will be increasing the distance and riding alongside other wonderful FHT members!

Which distance are you doing and why did you choose it?

I’m taking on the 50-mile route to push my mileage beyond what I’ve done before. Cycling in Pitlochry is going to be amazing. I’ve heard great reviews about Pitlochry and it’s beauty, I’m looking forward to visiting a new and picturesque location.

The Power of Community

How has Fund Her Tri UK supported you in taking on this challenge?

I discovered Etape Caledonia through FHT and the motivation and support from the group have been amazing.

What difference does having a supportive network make in tackling endurance events?

It makes a huge difference! I can be lazy and not push myself, by doing ‘just enough’ but having support from the FHT network really helps. Also, traveling to Pitlochry in Scotland to complete this event would never have been something I considered if I didn’t have the FHT community around me.

Inspiring More Women to Ride

What would you say to other women considering a cycling event like Cancer Research UK Etape Caledonia?

If you fancy it, do it! Speak to like-minded people for advice, support, and motivation.

Looking back at when you signed up, what advice would you give to yourself?

Try to stay injury-free and ease into the training plan. I’m still doing that now (a little later than planned!), but I’m confident that I have the time and drive to make it happen.

Race Day & The Bigger Picture

What are you most looking forward to about race day?

Cycling in a new location with spectacular views and incredible vibes!

What’s your fueling strategy for a long event like this?

Leading up to the event, I’ll focus on staying hydrated and getting good sleep. On the ride itself, I avoid too much refined sugar, so I’ll be fueling with Himalayan salt in my water, homemade flapjacks, salty crisps, cheese - and fresh dates (maybe too many!).
